The Home page has links to the eight chapters of the guide. Clicking on these titles or the images below them will take you to that chapter’s content. You can also hover over the Chapters drop-down menu at the top right corner of the site to move between chapters.

At the very top of the website, there are links to each section of the website:

  • Home – Returns you to the Home page
  • About Us – Describes the website and the people who developed the website content
  • Website Navigation – Describes the layout of the website
  • Materials – Provides links to downloadable files of the chapter materials, including print-only versions of each chapter
  • Featured Business Owners – Highlights the business owners featured on the website, including short videos sharing their advice for pursuing self-employment
  • Chapters – Is a drop-down menu for easy navigation between chapters

Chapter Pages

At the top of each chapter page is that chapter’s title. Some of the chapters begin with an Overview Video, located next to the chapter title. Below the title and Overview Video is the main content of the chapter.

Tabs

Chapter content is separated into tabs. Tabs are the titles located across the top of the box. To move through the chapter content in order, select the tabs from left to right. Once you’ve clicked on a tab, scroll down to read the information on that page.

Worksheets

Within the section tabs, there are links to various worksheets that you can use for your business planning. These worksheets should be downloaded and saved on your computer prior to using them so you don’t lose your answers.

The print-only versions of each chapter, as well as all other worksheets or documents, are also located on the Materials page at the top of the site. From there, all content can be downloaded and printed.

Section Review

Some of the tabs may have Section Reviews. The review questions are listed within the tab content. Write down your answers to the questions, then select the “Review Your Answers” accordion to compare your answers. Select the accordion’s title or the “+” icon to open the accordions. Once open, select the title or the “-” icon to close the accordions.

Chapter Review

Within each chapter, there is a “Chapter Review” tab. This tab includes questions to discuss with VR counselors. This tab also includes VR Counselor Tips. This section has specific things for counselors to consider as they work through the content with a consumer.

Check Your Understanding

Chapters 2 through 7 include a “Check Your Understanding” tab. This tab contains scenarios, review questions, and answers related to the entire chapter’s content, so you can test your understanding of the chapter material.
